Indispensable Theories

The literatures dealt with in this course are non-mainstream literatures. They are produced at the margin of a predominantly white male American literature.

In this respect, some theoretical tools (concepts and theories) are indispensable for the understanding of these literatures:

• Post-colonialism.

• Post-colonial Feminism.

• Deconstruction.
• Deleuze and Guattari's concept of "minor literature".

• Edward Said's "Orientalism".

• Homi Bhabha's concept of "Hybridity".
